Suspended axles

Comfort, safety and performance in every condition

Throughout its evolution, the agricultural tractor has consistently embodied the concept of productivity through its flexibility, ease of use, comfort, and operational safety. These market expectations are transforming individual components into increasingly optimized and integrated functional systems.

The front suspension is one of these continuously evolving functions, playing a key role in improving:

  • Vehicle handling at higher transport speeds (up to 60 km/h)
  • Safety and controllability in the most demanding dynamic conditions
  • Driving comfort, extending operators' working time
  • Traction effectiveness on each wheel, optimizing tire contact with the ground or road surface
  • Reliability of structures and mechanical components by filtering peak loads and stresses

For more than 20 years, Carraro has strongly believed in the benefits of front suspension and has developed a family of “S” (Single Suspension) and “SI” (Independent Suspension) products that are interchangeable with conventional rigid oscillating axles, offering superior performance without radically altering the tractor's existing architecture.

In recent years, however, market interest has grown significantly, and today front suspension is offered both on medium-to-small tractors, including specialized machines (75-100 HP), and on high-power open-field tractors (>350 HP). These dedicated technological solutions are deeply integrated into the vehicle's front-end architecture and deliver on-road performance approaching automotive standards.

Carraro stands alongside every OEM, providing the expertise and experience needed to develop alternative suspension layouts as well, such as the IFAS (Integrated Front Suspended Axle) concept, featuring a specifically designed axle beam.

Another example is the latest solution unveiled at Agritechnica 2025, called IFU (Integrated Front Unit)

The IFU is a front module that can integrate suspension and braking systems, while also accommodating a two-speed hydrostatic or electric transmission. This solution enables vehicle manufacturers to actively manage vehicle dynamics by controlling pitch behavior according to speed, weight distribution, tire pressure, and road conditions.
