Carraro to launch e-Mobility product offering with electric solutions for compact construction equipment

Munich, April 10, 2019 – At Bauma 2019 exhibition, the most important show for the construction equipment sector worldwide, held in Munich, Carraro unveils its product offering developed for e-Mobility in the modern construction site environment.

Carraro matured over 25 years of expertise in the development and supply of integrated drive systems for Material Handling applications for electric traction, offering a wide range of solutions with integrated electric motors. More recently Carraro also showcased its hybrid & full electric Agriculture Tractor “Ibrido” at EIMA Exhibition, already awarded with the Technical Innovation Award 2018 and with the Blue Award for environmentally-friendly solutions.

Now Carraro extends its know-how to Electrical Powertrains for the Construction Equipment Segment, providing customized solutions for vehicles such as compact wheel loaders, compact telehandlers or dumpers.

At Bauma 2019 Carraro presents two electric Powertrain examples with different solutions of e-gearbox and e-axles. The well known TB172 compact gearbox, usually connected to an hydraulic motor, has been properly modified to be fitted with several sizes of electric motors, becoming the eTB172, , thus further exploiting its application flexibility. This unit maintains the possibility to be combined with several models of standard Carraro steering or rigid axles, according to the application requirements. This Powertrain architecture reflects the more traditional Hydrostatic scheme, therefore is of easier vehicle installation, especially in case of coexistence in production of Electrical and Hydrostatic Powertrain in the same platform.

The more innovative e48.16M is an e-axle with complete integration of both electrical motor and inverter located in the axle central body. This architecture has been specifically designed for compact machines, such as compact wheel loaders or dumpers. Each 4 x 4 machine requires the use of 2 e-axles, which can grant at the same time optimal vehicle installation space (ideal for large battery packs) and very effective performance such as the torque vectoring between the 2 e-axles and best in class energy management in any working conditions.

Carraro competences for the e-Powertrain are not limited to the traditional driveline design, but entail the sizing and selection of all the Powertrain System modules, to offer the complete and optimized solution to fit the vehicle OEM requirements. This includes also the core of the Powertrain System: its Control. Carraro is in fact capable to provide its proprietary ECU (fully compliant with the most recent EU Norms), where the SW is installed, which can ensure the full Powertrain control and is designed to dialogue with the other vehicle ECU.

Carraro electrification solutions showcased at BAUMA therefore represent the natural evolution of the Group electrification know-how towards the compact Construction Equipment Machines.
