A Day for Vitaliano Trevisan: Theatre as Living Thought

Borgoricco celebrates the Vicenza-born playwright with an event of words, voices, and memory

Padua, September 18, 2025 – On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Aldo Rossi Cultural Centre in Borgoricco (PD) will host “Pensieri solo pensieri” (“Thoughts, Only Thoughts”), a day entirely dedicated to the theatre of Vitaliano Trevisan, one of the most incisive and radical authors in Italian literary and dramatic arts of the early 21st century.

Curated by Tomaso Carraro, Vice Chairman and Chief CSR Officer of Carraro Group, Stefano Fortin, playwright, dramaturg, and university researcher, and Giorgio Sangati, theatre director and acting instructor at the Carlo Goldoni Theatre Academy of the Teatro Stabile del Veneto - Teatro Nazionale and the ADDA of the Ancient Drama Institute of Syracuse, the event unfolds in three segments, going through Trevisan’s writing from theory to stage, and including a creative workshop.

“Our Group has long maintained a constant dialogue with the world of theatre, collaborating with independent organisations and institutions such as the Teatro Stabile del Veneto,” says Tomaso Carraro. “With this event dedicated to Vitaliano Trevisan, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting theatrical culture in the region and ensuring its proper visibility. This initiative is part of the broader Carraro Cultura project, aimed at enhancing the many cultural activities our Group supports, spanning illustration, music, photography, and theatre.”

“Vitaliano Trevisan taught many of us that theatre is not just representation, but also resistance. Through his writing, he transformed silence into words and solitude into form,” adds Stefano Fortin. “This day is a tribute to his artisanal workshop on language, his ability to think in fragments, and to narrate the particular as if it were universal.”

“I had the privilege of engaging with Trevisan’s writing, which does not seek to please but to interrogate. In ‘Il delirio del particolare’, his voice becomes architecture, memory, conflict,” concludes Giorgio Sangati. “Bringing his text to the stage was like entering a house designed to safeguard thought: every line is a threshold, every silence a room. His theatre does not concede, it demands. And for this reason, it endures.”

More specifically, the day of October 4th will be divided into three segments:

16:00 – The Courage to Speak of Roses

Lecture and discussion around the book “L’impeccabile solitudine del palcoscenico” by Stefano Fortin, with contributions by Giorgio Sangati and journalist Fabio Giaretta.

18:00 – Thinking in Fragments

Public presentation of the theatre workshop based on materials from Vitaliano Trevisan’s works, led by Alessandro Businaro with eight actors under 35. The “Thinking in Fragments” workshop, held from 22 to 26 September at the nidOramai artistic residence in Villa Estense, involves young performers exploring the emotional and architectural tensions of Trevisan’s writing.

20:00 – The Delirium of the Particular

Reading of the work awarded the Riccione Prize for Theatre 2017, performed by Maria Paiato and curated by Giorgio Sangati.

The entire initiative is promoted by Bus 14, in collaboration with the company Camerini con vista, sponsored by Carraro Group and supported by TSV – Teatro Stabile del Veneto, Carocci Editore, with the patronage of the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Borgoricco, the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies of the University of Padua, and with the media partnership of Nordest Multimedia.

All events are free entry with voluntary donations. Proceeds will be donated to Care To Action, this initiative’s solidarity partner and an Italian NGO operating since 1991 in India to support children, women, and vulnerable and marginalized communities.
